What a great weekend, Eh?
This past weekend was one of the best I have had in a long time! My cousin Kailei drove down from Canada to spend a couple of relaxing days. We didn't do much, but spending time with my family is a very rare occasion so I was 100% content with it. One of the hi lights was driving her around to collect items that she can only get in "The States". Giant boxes of Total cereal. A 5lb tub of Red Vines licorice. 100 calorie Yoplait Yogurt. Sour Patch Kids. A large amount of liquor (which apparently is more then twice the amount in Canada) And a 2 hour shopping spree at Target because in her eyes "It's the greatest place on earth!" If there was one thing she wishes Canada had, it would be Target. Hahaha. And then another hour of trying to think like a drug dealer, and stash all these items in her car to smuggle back. Priceless.Watching her get excited about all of these things was entertaining to say the least.
We spend most of our time laughing and talking shit about our less than mediocre family members who will only speak or get together when someone dies or gets married (which is NOT very often). And in that case the "Congrats!" or "I'm sorry for your loss" is done over Facebook. My parents took us out to breakfast only so my dad and step mom wouldn't catch shit from his sister, Kailei's mom, for not seeing her while she was visiting. It was a lot of fake laughs and irrelevant questions. "Oh so hows school? Hows work? Hows your mom doing?" And before she can even finish answering the questions, a "Oh that's nice! Good to hear!" Fucking ridiculous. We knew it was going to be a fucking joke going into it and politely played along with made up giggles and pretended to care about whatever bullshit they fed us.
Saturday night we took her out to a gay bar in downtown Olympia. CULTURE SHOCK! She had never been to anything like this place before and needless to say she was a bit overwhelmed. But after a couple drinks she was dancing the night away!! She loved the fact that everyone could be open and that there were gays everywhere! Apparently where she is from, straight people do not go to gay bars. And vice versa. She was utterly AMAZED. It was a good time.
All in all the weekend was fucking amazing. Sent her on her way with a carload of goodies,a hangover, and some memories she will never forget! Being able to spend good quality time with my family (which like I said before is rare as shit and never genuine) seriously brought tears to my eyes. Which sounds a little ridiculous but to those of you who know me or can relate, understand why its such an amazing feeling :]
